NMES Float and Pilgrims and Clay Chick!

Hi everyone,
First I want to say thank you so much for the kind words, emails, and notes regarding the passing of my Grandmother. I really appreciated them! I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving tomorrow, enjoying time with your family. Here are some pictures from our field trip to see the NMES float (which I am late to upload) and a few cute pictures of some pilgrims that we worked on last week!

And a reminder...Clay Chick is coming to our classroom on Monday afternoon! Yay! We can't wait to paint some ornaments! Enjoy the long weekend! Book Bags can be returned on Monday if you  haven't yet, and they will not be sent home until 12/6.  Thank you!

Thanksgiving Feast

I just wanted to let you all know that I won't be able to eat with your children in the cafeteria for our Thanksgiving Day Feast tomorrow! My grandmother passed away and the funeral is tomorrow. I am sad to miss the special lunch with them. We already worked hard on our place mats last week and they are ready to be used for the lunch! They came out adorable. I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Studying Characters

In Reader's Workshop we have been working hard at studying characters! We are learning to notice all that a character does in a story to get to know them as well as to help us in retelling! We are learning to use time order words to retell a story and have retold to a reading buddy. We will continue to do a lot with studying characters and character traits over the coming weeks.

Parent Visitors!

Here are some wonderful pictures of you with your children during American Education Week in our classroom!

Watch the Morning News!

Our school will be featured for the "eye opener" shout out on Channel 5 tomorrow morning at 6:00! The whole school came into the gym to form the number 100 (for our birthday) and waved and gave a shout out! Our class was forming the angle part of the top of the number 1. I am sure that this will be a fast view, so you might want to DVR it!

Permission Slips Needed Tomorrow!

Hello!
We got the permission slips for a last minute school field trip to see the float that represents our school in the Thanksgiving parade! Our class is going in the morning around 9:30. Please send back the slip tomorrow morning if you would like your child to attend. Thank you so much!

Veterans Day Activities

This week we learned about what a veteran is, and why we celebrate Veterans Day. The students created adorable soldiers and wrote one adjective to describe a veteran. They worked with partners to write facts under the headings of "Are, Can, Have" about Veterans as well. We lined the hallway outside our room (along with Ms. Waterman's classroom) with these cute little soldiers. The hallway looks amazing! Special thanks to Mrs. Winsper for putting the video together that is in the post underneath this one. Check it out and turn up the volume! Here are a few pictures of the soldiers that our class made.

Happy Veterans Day!!!

American Education Week

Hi Families!
I have chosen the day/time of next Wednesday, 11/13, at 12:00 to 1:00 as the time that parents can come to visit our classroom. The actual activity is to be determined right now as I am still thinking about what I want the students to be doing. I will send a paper notice home on Tuesday as a reminder. If you happen to see this blog post over the weekend and know that you will attend, please send me an email to help me in planning purposes. I appreciate it!

A Big Thank You to.....

Mrs. Egan and Mrs. Walker (And Mrs. Campbell from Ms. Waterman's class) for coming in to help with a BIG project! We are amazed at how wonderful the background and road look along our halls and have gotten so many compliments! We truly appreciate it! I just gave them the vision that I had in my head and they knocked it out of the park. It's amazing!

Let's Talk Math!

This week we have been hard at work on counting by 2's, 5's, and 10's! The students are doing a great job with their skip counting and through Math Workshop, we are able to do many different engaging activities that really help the students grasp these concepts of skip counting and patterns in numbers. When students are on the computers for their "Math Fact" station, they are busy working at their own speed and level on practicing their math facts to build their fluency and automaticity on a site called "Xtra Math". I am able to monitor their progress and print out their reports. They love this computer site. Here are some pictures of various activities done in small groups this week. We are loving our Math Workshop time!
