Reading Homework and Gumball Math

Hi everyone,
Because I was out on Friday, I had to send home the reading homework today. The homework will not be due until Friday morning now. If your child finishes on Thursday they can certainly send it in but you have an extra day. Also, this Friday I will give the gumball quiz that the students should have done this past Friday. Thank you!

Photo of the Day + Challenge Time

As poets, we are learning to look at everyday objects in new and fresh ways. Brendan was just observing a clothespin and is beginning a poem about one during Writing Workshop.

We have been learning about weather in Science. Please ask your child to name the three main kinds of clouds! Email me their answer and 2/3 correct will earn a small prize.

Have a great weekend!

On Friday Kyla shared some adorable dance costumes, cheer competition jackets, and trophies! The kids loved seeing all of the items she shared with us. Here are some pictures. Great job Kyla!

Conferences

Hello,
Report cards will go home this Friday. It does let you sign off if you want a conference. I do have a few time slots for next Wednesday, the half day that is set aside for any conferences. The only required conference time is term 1. So conferences for March are not something you have to do. If you are interested in one, please sign the form and I will email you with available times for that day. I can also be flexible if you are interested in waiting until closer to the end of the year. Thank you!

Writer's Workshop

Last week we wrapped up opinion writing! The students were so engaged in their writing and did a wonderful job stating their opinions with strong reasons. We started off by writing opinions about anything and then moved to writing opinions about important matters of the world such as improving our country or world, or our own brains and bodies (ie: I think too much TV is not good for you.)  I will be sending home some samples of this writing next week. Opinion writing helped us to move easily into writing persuasive letters. The students are loving this. They are excited to try to persuade people (right now it is mostly parents) to do certain things such as build a tree house or sign them up for a new sports activity. We will continue with persuasive letter writing into next week and begin to write letters about important matters, just as we did with opinions. :) Here are a few pictures from opinion writing as well as some contraction kites that we made after learning about contractions today.
