Supplies Needed!
If anyone is willing to send in Valentine's Day stickers (regular and foam stickers) for our Valentine holders, that would be so appreciated! We will need them in by Thursday, along with the gallon jug. Thank you!

Valentine's Day/100th Day
Hi everyone!
So with the snow days, as of now it looks like the 100th Day will fall on 2/13, which is also when we would be celebrating Valentine's Day. (This is if we don't have another snow day.) That is a lot to pack into one day! I had originally wanted to have parents come in for Valentine's crafts, but I am unsure now as to the busy day. I will make a decision soon!
For now, please send in an empty gallon water jug (just like the milk jugs, only one that had water in it so we can avoid the smell of the leftover milk) for a project for our Valentine holders. Poland Springs, etc. Please label your child's name on the bottom. If you have an extra, please send in as well. I will need this by next Thursday, Feb. 12th.
For ideas for clothing for the 100th Day, please refer to the side bar on the blog and click 2014. Then in the month of February you will scroll down to find a post from last year. :)
Thank you!

We are learning all about reading nonfiction in our Reader's Workshop unit. The students are learning about the importance of text features and their purposes. For a challenge, please have your child tell me the answers to the following. 2/3 correct will earn a prize! Please email me your child's answers. Thank you!
1. What is the purpose of a heading?
2. What is the purpose of a table of contents?
3. Name one other text feature.

A Few Reminders/Updates
Hi everyone!
I can't believe vacation is almost over. I just wanted to jot down a few things.
1. Your children were given new pencil boxes from me for their holiday present. They were asked to replenish anything needed and put their supplies in the NEW boxes and bring back to school. Please be sure to pack those for your children! :)
2. New sight words are coming home Monday with a new sight word list. Only three words are coming home this week. I am noticing some children are skipping pages and therefore the book is almost filled up already. Please try not to skip pages. The new list can be cut out and glued to the NEXT CLEAN PAGE in the book.
3. We are starting a new unit in Reader's Workshop. Students will be learning about reading nonfiction. Books that come home in book baggies will be nonfiction books. (Bags come home on Friday.)
Thank you!

Challenge
Last week we started a new unit in Writer's Workshop called"Authors as Mentors". In this unit we will study authors and learn about some of their crafts they use in their writing and their purpose. We will try these crafts in our own stories! Please ask your child what the real grown up word for the ... (dot, dot, dot) is and what its purpose is. Please email me their answer for a little prize!
